The surrounding gum tissue must get used to the dentures and the soreness will subside. Your dentist will adjust the denture to reduce discomfort and swelling. You may also need to eat soft food for the first few days to adjust to the denture. Also, practicing speaking will help to get you accustomed to wearing the denture.
With proper care and cleaning, your dentures can last a long time. They should be cleaned every day with specialized denture cleaning toothpaste and by soaking in a cleaning solution. Dentures should be left in water overnight when not in use to prevent warping.
